The first step of creating an arrow is to create a stroke.

Increase the "Weight" field until the arrowhead is displayed at your desired size. Choose File > Place to place a text file such as .DOC, .RTF, or .TXT. Click and hold, move the cursor and start to draw a line. Open the "Stroke" palette on the right side of the InDesign application menu.

Making a custom arrowhead in InDesign is a bit of work. With the Line tool selected, click on the gear icon in the Options bar to access the Arrowheads option. For finer control, select the contents of the frame with the black arrowhead (the white arrowhead will select the frame itself) and then move the image around inside the frame with the mouse or the arrow keys for very fine (but slow) control. In addition, the ‘[‘ or ‘]’ (left or right bracket) decreases or increases the weight of the line by one pixel.
